"My photo series (view from bottom up) focuses around the secret life of my primary school signature bear, an object that once represented education and love. At one point, the teddy meant a lot to me and sat proudly on my bed (depicted in photo 1). Throughout time the bear was thrown into the back of my cupboard (photo 2) and forgotten about. Here he grew old, moldy and unappreciated which poses a stark contrast to the kind messages written all over his body. I took the studio pictures using exaggerated side lighting to cast an eerie shadow over the bear to show my distance from the object today however close ups of the object depict affirming messages that I once held close to my heart. You can also see the mold in the zoomed images, again contrasting the writing on the bear. The final photo shows the bear being thrown into the air, which corresponds with my personal desire to finish university, and be free in the world."
